Here at Consuelo Mendez STEM Academy, there are many hands working together to provide our students with a top notch education.
The partnership between Communities in Schools, UTeach from the University of Texas, and the Texas STEM Coalition provides allows for a variety of services to our students.
A little about each partner:
Communities In Schools provides and leverages an array of social services to remove non-academic barriers (poverty, hunger, grief/loss, family conflict, mental health, an unemployed parent, domestic violence, etc.) that interfere with a child's learning. CIS provides ongoing, individualized support to students, empowering them to stay in school and arrive to their classrooms ready to learn.

The UTeach Department is housed in the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. Its goal is to prepare STEM teachers to impact the world through use of STEM and project based instruction. UTeach partnered with Mendez last year with the focus to provide support to the various instructional communities on campus, specifically math. With weekly planning sessions, constant data driven discussions, frequent observations and walkthroughs to improve instruction and most importantly teamwork, the M.A.T.H. (Making Awesome Things Happen) team has grown with much abundance. High impacts of growth has occurred in engagement and test scores where the department overall has seen a 20% increase in scores for ALL students.
